Word n°15: holiday vs. holidays vs. vacation!

There seems to be a lot of confusion with the word holiday.

Here is a quick and easy explanation:

UK:

Un jour férié = a bank or public holiday

Les vacances d'été, de fin d'année, scolaires = holidays

Mes vacances perso = holiday but there's a grey area, you can also say holidays as in "Where are you going for your holiday(s)?

US:

Un jour férié = a public holiday

Les fêtes de fin d'année = holidays

Mes vacances perso = vacation

And last but not least, the expression is on "holiday", no "s"! Happy holidays to you all!
